Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical issue of air pollution from ship emissions, highlighting the significant contributions of sulfur dioxide, NOx, and primary particles to air quality degradation. It reviews the impact of regulatory measures such as SECA regulations and the global sulfur cap, demonstrating their effectiveness in reducing emissions. The study introduces an experimental helical cyclonic filter designed to mitigate particulate matter emissions, focusing on its performance under various operational conditions. The filter's innovative design, featuring multi-channel helical cyclonic structures, is meticulously described, emphasizing its ability to capture larger particles effectively. However, the chapter also addresses the filter's limitations in trapping smaller particles, suggesting potential improvements and the integration of cold plasma technology to enhance overall efficiency. Through detailed data analysis and scatter plot matrices, the chapter provides a comprehensive evaluation of the filter's performance, offering valuable insights into its optimization and future research directions. The findings underscore the filter's potential to significantly reduce particulate matter emissions, contributing to cleaner air and healthier environments.
