Aerodynamic Characteristics of an Inclined Square Cylinder with Corner Fins

Abstract

The chapter delves into the aerodynamic characteristics of a square cylinder with leading-edge fins at various angles of inclination. Through experimental studies, it examines the impact of inclination on key parameters such as the Strouhal number, coefficient of drag, vortex formation length, vortex size, and total circulation. Notably, the study reveals that the coefficient of drag is minimized at a 30° inclination, corresponding to a maximum Strouhal number and minimum vortex size. These findings have practical implications for designing structures like bridges and tall buildings, where understanding wind-induced vibrations is crucial for stability and safety.
