Abstract

This study investigates an innovative, eco-friendly approach for gallium recovery from aqueous solutions using immobilized siderophores, specifically Desferrioxamine B (DFOB), in alginate hydrogels. The research addresses the challenge of separating soluble siderophore-metal complexes by optimizing immobilization conditions and assessing recovery efficiency and selectivity. Key parameters such as alginate concentration, DFOB concentration, CaCl2 concentration, and immobilization time were optimized using Central Composite Design. The study found that these factors significantly influence bead pore size, which is crucial for effective gallium ion diffusion and DFOB retention. Preliminary trials showed low DFOB loading efficiency, highlighting the need for further optimization. The method combines the strong chelation power of siderophores with the structural advantages of alginate, offering a stable and reusable platform for metal recovery. This approach not only enhances recovery efficiency but also ensures environmental sustainability, making it a promising alternative to conventional methods.
