An Empirical Study of Financial Inclusion and Its Challenges Faced by Transgender Individual in Mumbai City: With Respect to Banking Services, Savings Behavior, and Access to Financial Resources

Transgender individuals have routinely endured a variety of discrimination, social distancing, stigma, and access to employment and healthcare that is denied to them based on outward, urgent gestures made by the people around them. Multiple individuals experience daily the loss of legal protection and abuse in public accommodations. Transgender individuals have secured small gains towards social acceptance, yet distressing and basic daily living and survival hinder them as they routinely face marginalization and absolute disconnection from main-stream society. This study aims to measure barriers faced by transgender individuals residing in the city of Mumbai in banking services, saving adequacy and access to financial resources. The statistical methodology utilized for the present study employs a one sample t-test. The study’s results demonstrated that Discrimination at bank branches, Social stigma (Trust issues), Distress at acquiring loans, Credit scoring bias, Difficulties with online banking, Insufficient government support, Abuse from bank staff, Low saving rates, Legal barriers, and a Low level of financial literacy remains a significant barrier for transgender individuals residing in the city of Mumbai.
