Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized various sectors, particularly healthcare, through the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). IoMT enables real-time patient monitoring and remote diagnosis, but it also presents significant security challenges. This article addresses these challenges by proposing an enhanced three-factor authentication and key agreement protocol using Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs). The protocol is designed to withstand common attacks such as Man-in-the-Middle (MITM), user device capture, and session-specific temporary information (KSSTI) attacks. The authors provide a thorough security analysis using the Real-or-Random (ROR) model, AVISPA tool, and informal security analysis, demonstrating the protocol's resilience against various threats. Additionally, the protocol is evaluated for its computational and communication costs, showing improved performance compared to existing solutions. The integration of PUFs in IoMT environments offers a promising approach to enhancing security while maintaining efficiency, making this article a valuable resource for professionals in the field.
