With the wide use of information technology, the ability of young people to write Chinese characters is declining. In order to improve the ability, in the paper, we propose an on-line evaluation approach to the normativity of a handwritten character, which is based on the determination of the relationships between writing sub-strokes by vector cross-product. By comparing the relationships between sub-strokes of a handwritten character with the relevant relationships of a standard character, the method can easily determine whether or not a handwritten character is normative. This approach can be used to automatically evaluate handwritten characters in real time and allow paperless teaching character writing.
