Abstract

This chapter delves into an innovative BIM-based mixed reality approach for creating game-like interactive environments in the real-life timber frame construction industry. Using Norscot Joinery as a case study, the authors explore the challenges faced by the company and the objectives set to overcome them. The study focuses on developing software that allows users to visualize and interact with house designs before construction, improving communication with clients and streamlining the design process. The chapter also discusses the integration of BIM and gaming technologies, highlighting the benefits of this approach for both the company and its clients. Additionally, the authors present the company's product range and discuss the potential for extending the RIBA BIM cycle to include virtual software for construction progress and facility management. The chapter concludes by summarizing the results of the study and the recognition it has received, highlighting the significant improvements in methodologies and understanding achieved through the research project.
