Abstract

The chapter introduces a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model designed to optimize the lot-sizing/scheduling of automotive plastic components, taking into account the availability of raw materials and packaging. The model addresses the complexities of production planning and scheduling in the automotive industry, aiming to minimize costs associated with setups, inventory, stockouts, and machine-mould assignments. The study is based on a real industrial case from the Zero-Defect Manufacturing Platform project, focusing on a second-tier supplier in the automotive supply chain. The MILP model is validated through computational experiments, demonstrating efficient performance even for large datasets. The model's novelty lies in its consideration of the arrival, use, and availability of materials, as well as the constraints on mould changes and setup times. This research contributes to the field by providing a practical solution for optimizing production planning and scheduling in the automotive industry, with potential applications in other manufacturing sectors.
