Abstract

This article provides an in-depth analysis of the factors driving China's carbon intensity, a critical issue as the country strives to achieve carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. The study employs the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) decomposition model and an attribution analysis to dissect the contributions of various sectors to China's carbon intensity from 2000 to 2020. The research reveals that energy intensity is the most significant factor in reducing carbon intensity, while the fossil energy structure and industrial structure have hindered progress. The article highlights the fluctuating impact of renewable and nuclear energy consumption on carbon intensity and the varying roles of different sectors in promoting or inhibiting carbon intensity. The study also underscores the importance of energy transformation and industrial restructuring in achieving China's carbon reduction goals. By providing a detailed sectoral analysis, the article offers valuable insights into the specific contributions of each sector to China's carbon intensity, making it an essential read for those interested in the intricacies of China's carbon emission reduction strategies.
