Analysis of Factors Influencing the Reduction of Road Transport Emissions in the Urban Environment

Abstract

The chapter examines the critical issue of road transport emissions in urban environments, highlighting the significant socio-economic and environmental challenges posed by increased vehicle traffic. It identifies the primary sources of pollution, including exhaust gases and traffic noise, and discusses how the density of the street network and the volume of transit vehicles exacerbate the problem. The analysis reveals that a unified approach to environmental protection is lacking, making it difficult to implement effective measures. The research focuses on understanding the factors influencing the emissions and distribution of harmful substances, aiming to develop strategies for reducing air pollution and improving urban environmental conditions. Key factors analyzed include natural and climatic conditions, road infrastructure, urban planning, traffic organization, and technical characteristics of vehicles. The chapter emphasizes the need for a holistic approach, integrating various measures such as improving traffic organization, enhancing urban planning, and utilizing technical innovations like electric vehicles. It also explores the use of mathematical models to predict the impact of different factors on pollution levels, providing a framework for developing effective mitigation strategies. The findings underscore the importance of a comprehensive approach that combines technical, organizational, and urban planning measures to significantly reduce exhaust gas pollution in modern cities.
