Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical analysis of how uncertainties in geotechnical engineering properties, estimated through the Standard Penetration Test (SPT), affect the design of aerogenerator foundations. The study focuses on the use of wind power as a sustainable energy source, emphasizing the need for robust geotechnical investigations to ensure the stability and safety of onshore wind turbines. The authors compare various correlations used to estimate parameters such as friction angle and Young’s modulus, highlighting the disparities and potential errors that can arise from these estimations. The chapter also presents a parametric study and numerical modeling to understand the behavior of stresses and displacements under different input parameter variations. The findings underscore the importance of comprehensive geotechnical testing to minimize uncertainties and enhance the accuracy of foundation designs, ultimately contributing to the safety and efficiency of wind energy infrastructure.
