Abstract

The article presents a novel motor-fully-rotating directional drilling system (MRDS) designed to address the limitations of conventional bent housing motors in land directional drilling. The MRDS employs a hydraulic clutch to enable the rotation of the drill string, except for the guiding bent housing, reducing longitudinal drag and enhancing the bit's rock-breaking torque. The study includes a detailed theoretical analysis and indoor tests to verify the toolface stability of the MRDS, demonstrating its potential to outperform traditional systems in maintaining wellbore trajectory control and improving drilling efficiency.
