Chapter 4 discusses the congestion control (CC) and the flow control (FC) algorithms in detail. Such algorithms are very complex in nature due to the dependency on many parameters. Therefore, analytical modeling of these algorithms has to be done carefully in a stepwise manner. During this investigation, first the behavior of the congestion control functionality is modeled and second, in a combined analytical model, flow control and congestion control are modeled together. Before getting into the detailed discussion of the analytical model, an overview of the two mechanisms is given.
