Analyzing the Mobility of University Members for InnaMoRuhr

The chapter delves into the InnaMoRuhr project, which aims to enhance the sustainability of mobility within the University Alliance Ruhr. By developing and deploying mobile applications for Android and iOS, the project captures detailed mobility data from university staff and students. These applications employ on-device trip segmentation to preserve user privacy, obfuscating origins and destinations before data upload. The collected data, encompassing over 13,000 trips, is analyzed using sophisticated data analysis tools. A hierarchical classification scheme, featuring two random forests, identifies transport modes with high accuracy, differentiating between walking, cycling, driving, public transportation, and e-scooter rides. The analysis reveals intriguing insights into mobility behaviors across different user groups and over time, showcasing the potential for optimizing sustainable mobility solutions in the Ruhr area. Visualizations, such as heatmaps and travel pattern distributions, provide a vivid representation of mobility choices, highlighting areas for potential improvements in public transportation.
