Abstract

The article explores the critical role of the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) in managing and processing vast volumes of data, particularly in cloud computing and big data analytics. It highlights the importance of data replication in HDFS for ensuring high reliability and availability, and the challenges posed by unbalanced data distribution. The article provides an in-depth analysis of the HDFS Balancer, its functionality, and limitations, and discusses the need for a more dynamic and responsive balancing mechanism. It introduces the Dynamic Architecture for Data Replica Balancing (DARB), a sophisticated solution for data balance on HDFS, and presents a comprehensive evaluation of its performance, stability, and efficiency. The article also delves into the impact of data imbalance on data locality and read performance, and the benefits of regular and strategic balancing interventions. It concludes by emphasizing the significance of effective replica balancing in HDFS for maintaining data equilibrium and ensuring efficient system performance, and suggests future directions for research in this area.
