The Institute for Automotive Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, in cooperation with fka, has established an innovative technology for the recording and processing of acoustic information in vehicles, the technical challenges and development methods of which are explained here. Potential for this technology is expected in the detection of safety-relevant environment sounds, in system monitoring and in the realization of comfort functions. The understanding of this diversity and the expectation of legal requirements for automated vehicles also allow an economic evaluation. …
