Abstract

The preceding sections have shown that the performance losses of machines and even systems of machines relative to some optimal performance are basically caused by perturbations which manifest themselves in an increased process variability and the ability of machines to adapt to these new situations. The derivation also made clear that accelerating the process execution by reducing the optimal time t0 and thus increasing the nominal performance of a machine will in general only enlarge the gap.
