Applied Informatics is a peer-reviewed open access journal published under the brand SpringerOpen. The journal covers the theory and application of informatics as applied in a broad span of scientific, technological, engineering and social fields. The journal collects and presents high-quality original research papers and reviews on various aspects of applied informatics, with the foundations of informatics -- information theory, statistical modeling, machine learning -- as the driving core and the interactions between essential realms as primary focus. Particularly important are papers describing interactions between life sciences, including bioinformatics, medical informatics, bioengineering, and others; intelligence sciences, including neural and cognitive informatics, multimedia and pattern recognition and community sciences such as social networks, affective computing, big data analytics, and others.
