Abstract

The chapter 'Approaching a Smart, and Sustainable Interior for Future Mobility Solutions' delves into the innovative work of the 'Future Interior' subproject, part of the broader 'FutureFlexPro' initiative. The primary focus is on the development of a sustainable and functional door panel for future vehicles, incorporating bio-based materials and advanced manufacturing techniques. The project combines the expertise of several Fraunhofer Institutes, resulting in a door panel prototype that not only meets high environmental standards but also integrates smart surfaces for user interaction. Key highlights include the use of atmospheric pressure plasma for surface treatments, which significantly reduces environmental impact compared to conventional methods. Additionally, the chapter explores the functionalization of veneer surfaces with self-cleaning and dirt-repellent properties, as well as the integration of sensors into bio-based materials.
