Artificial Intelligence-Based Hearing Loss Detection Using Acoustic Threshold and Speech Perception Level

Abstract

The article introduces an automated audiometer designed to diagnose hearing loss through speech recognition performance measures such as Word Recognition Score (WRS) and Speech Recognition Threshold (SRT). Utilizing LabVIEW software, the system generates and controls pure-tone signals automatically, plotting audiograms and determining acoustic thresholds. Seven speech signal features are extracted and classified using machine learning algorithms to distinguish between normal and hearing-impaired subjects. The system's novelty lies in its ability to analyze six different frequencies of speech signals, providing a comprehensive diagnosis of hearing impairment. The study also establishes a relationship between hearing loss patients' acoustic thresholds and SRT, demonstrating the system's potential to revolutionize hearing loss detection and management.
