Abstract

This chapter delves into the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in sustainability reporting for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). It highlights four key areas: the opportunities AI presents for enhancing accuracy, efficiency, and transparency in reporting; the challenges NGOs face in adopting AI, such as data quality and algorithmic bias; the policy considerations necessary for responsible AI integration; and real-world examples of NGOs already leveraging AI for sustainability reporting. The text concludes that while AI offers significant advantages, addressing ethical and policy challenges is crucial for its successful implementation. By automating data collection, providing real-time monitoring, and enabling more accurate reporting, AI can help NGOs demonstrate their environmental impact more effectively, build stakeholder trust, and drive meaningful environmental change. The chapter also emphasizes the need for standardized data formats, data privacy measures, and capacity-building initiatives to support NGOs in harnessing AI's full potential. Through collaborative efforts and responsible AI development, NGOs can achieve greater transparency and accountability, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future.
