Abstract

The article introduces a novel MPPT controller that combines Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) with the Perturb & Observe (P&O) technique to efficiently track the global maximum power point in partially shaded solar PV panels. The proposed controller uses solar PV voltage and current as inputs, avoiding the need for costly irradiation sensors. The article delves into the mathematical modeling of the solar PV panel and the design of the ANN-based MPPT controller, highlighting the advantages of the cascaded feed-forward neural network architecture. Extensive simulations and hardware validation demonstrate that the proposed controller achieves accurate power tracking with minimal oscillations and reduced cost compared to existing methods. The article concludes by comparing the performance of the proposed controller with other MPPT algorithms, showcasing its superiority in terms of settling time, oscillations, and cost-effectiveness.
