Abstract

This study delves into the safety perceptions of roundabout users in India, highlighting the significant variations among different demographic groups and vehicle types. Through an extensive questionnaire survey and advanced statistical analyses, the research identifies key factors influencing perceived safety, such as age, gender, vehicle type, and driving experience. The study reveals that male users aged 26-35 and those driving larger vehicles perceive roundabouts as safer, while female users, young motorcyclists, and bicyclists report higher risk perceptions. The research also underscores the importance of addressing high-risk areas like roundabout entries and simplifying lane configurations to enhance safety. The findings offer practical implications for traffic engineers, urban planners, and policymakers, emphasizing the need for user-centered roundabout designs and targeted safety interventions to improve road safety in mixed-traffic environments.
