Abstract

The chapter explores the critical role of underground network infrastructure in urban and industrial safety and functionality. It highlights the challenges faced by sewage pipelines due to mechanical and chemical factors, leading to potential disruptions. The focus is on trenchless technologies, particularly CIPP linings, which are essential for efficient and minimally disruptive pipeline repairs. The study introduces a novel approach using micro-computed tomography (mCT) to assess the internal structure of CIPP liners, revealing significant variations in porosity and resin saturation. This detailed analysis uncovers potential defects and weaknesses in the liners, such as interconnected pore networks and thin layers of high porosity, which can affect their performance and durability. The findings underscore the need for standardized manufacturing processes to enhance the reliability of CIPP liners, offering a groundbreaking method for quality control and improvement in trenchless pipeline repair technologies.
