Abstract

The article explores the critical role of sand stowing in enhancing the stability of coal pillars in deep coal mines, where conventional methods face significant challenges. It highlights the use of hydraulic sand stowing as a sustainable approach to control strata movement and minimize geotechnical hazards. The study combines laboratory compression tests and numerical simulations using FLAC3D to analyze the impact of sand stowing on pillar strength and post-failure behavior. The results demonstrate that sand stowing significantly increases pillar strength and alters its post-failure behavior, making it a valuable technique for safe and efficient coal extraction. The article concludes with recommendations for further field research to validate the findings and emphasizes the potential of sand stowing in deep coal mines.
