Abstract

This chapter investigates the potential of using recycled coarse aggregates from demolition and construction waste in the production of M30 grade concrete. The study focuses on the mechanical properties, including compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength, as well as durability aspects such as bond strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, rapid chloride ion penetration, water absorption, and sorptivity. The research evaluates the impact of partial replacement of natural aggregates with recycled aggregates treated through chemical, abrasion, and thermal methods. The findings indicate that while recycled aggregates exhibit lower bulk density and higher water absorption, they can still produce concrete with adequate mechanical and durability properties. The study concludes that chemically treated recycled aggregates perform best, and the use of recycled aggregates does not significantly compromise the quality of concrete, making them a viable option for sustainable construction practices.
