Abstract

This chapter delves into the assessment of strength and long-term durability properties of cement-stabilized granular lateritic soil for use in base and sub-base layers of pavement. The study highlights the environmental and economic advantages of utilizing locally available materials, reducing transportation costs and carbon emissions. Key findings include the significant improvement in unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and California Bearing Ratio (CBR) values with increasing cement content, demonstrating the potential of stabilized lateritic soil to meet the required standards for pavement construction. The research also emphasizes the importance of durability testing, showing that stabilized specimens met the mass loss criteria for structural pavement layers. Additionally, the study explores the relationship between cement content and shrinkage behavior, providing a detailed understanding of the material's performance under various conditions. The conclusions suggest that cement-stabilized lateritic soil can be a viable and sustainable alternative to conventional aggregates, offering valuable insights for the design and maintenance of roadways.
