Abstract

The article delves into the historic RADARSAT-2 Synthetic Aperture Radar data to analyze the Manefay slide at the Bingham Canyon Mine, using modern InSAR techniques. It focuses on the geology of the failure area, ground-based monitoring systems, the interpretation of the failure mechanism, and a 2010 InSAR research project. The study aims to determine if InSAR monitoring could have detected signs of failure prior to the event and better estimated the extent of movement. The analysis reveals new insights into the failure mechanism, including the direction of movement in the upper part of the slope and deformations below the passive block. The improved InSAR techniques offer potential enhancements for future slope management in mining operations.
