Abstract

The chapter delves into the challenges of volatile markets and rigid supply chains, highlighting the need for more dynamic production environments. It introduces the concept of Shared Production (SP) as defined by Plattform Industrie 4.0, which focuses on flexible production configurations across sites and companies. The paper discusses the use of Asset Administration Shells (AAS) and GAIA-X to facilitate secure, decentralized, and confidential data exchange between partners. It explores the role of AAS in defining a common vocabulary for data exchange and the use of GAIA-X connectors for authentication and secure data management. The chapter also describes a vendor-independent marketplace for machining, where a SP platform matches product requirements with registered production services. It outlines the steps involved in the SP scenario, from product design to manufacturing, and highlights the need for standardization and further technical integration to enable vendor-independent shared production.
