Abstract

The increasing incidence of cardiovascular diseases, particularly among young individuals, has underscored the need for advanced ECG analysis techniques. Traditional methods of ECG analysis, which rely heavily on manual intervention, are time-consuming and prone to human error. This article delves into the application of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DDPMs) to generate synthetic ECG signals, addressing the critical issues of data scarcity and privacy. The study proposes a novel framework that leverages 2D image generation models to enhance the fidelity and diagnostic value of synthetic ECG beats, particularly for rare conditions like atrial fibrillation. By embedding one-dimensional ECG signals into a two-dimensional space, the model achieves superior waveform continuity and pathological characteristic preservation. The evaluation system, which includes dynamic time warping, Euclidean distance, and percent root mean square difference, ensures that the generated signals are clinically relevant and of high quality. The results demonstrate that augmenting imbalanced datasets with synthetic ECG beats significantly improves classification performance, highlighting the potential of this approach in enhancing diagnostic accuracy and data augmentation strategies.
