Abstract

This chapter delves into the authentication method for PLC networks by modeling the Channel Impulse Response (CIR). It introduces four scenarios to simulate relevant impulse responses, detailing the direct and secondary signal paths. The proposed Physical Layer Identification (PL ID) technique involves taking the mean of successive estimated CIRs to reduce noise impact, enhancing the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). The chapter presents an algorithm for PL ID generation and discusses simulation results, showcasing the technique's robustness and accuracy even in noisy PLC environments. The Successful Path Detection Probability (SPDP) and Successful Path Detection Gain (SPDG) are evaluated, demonstrating the proposed scheme's superiority over existing techniques. The chapter concludes with an analysis of the Bit Mismatch Rate (BMR), highlighting the benefits of increased observations for accurate PL ID generation.
