Abstract

The article introduces a sophisticated method for automated detection of delamination defects in composite laminates using ultrasonic images. It leverages object detection networks, particularly the EfficientDet model, to analyze ultrasonic B-scan images. The study highlights the addition of three custom blocks to the EfficientDet model to capture more precise feature information, enhancing the model's ability to detect delamination defects accurately. The research compares the modified EfficientDet model with other object detection algorithms, such as YOLOv3 and RetinaNet, demonstrating superior performance in terms of mean average precision (mAP). The method is validated through extensive experiments, showcasing its potential to revolutionize non-destructive testing in industries reliant on composite materials.
