VW software company Car.Software Organization and Microsoft are planning to develop the cloud-based Automated Driving Platform. The idea is to advance the development of automated driving.

Back in 2018, Volkswagen and Microsoft formed a strategic partnership to develop the Volkswagen Automotive Cloud (VW.AC). The cooperation is now being expanded to include automated driving. Volkswagen’s Car.Software unit is working with Microsoft to establish a central development environment. The cloud, data and machine learning services from Microsoft Azure will provide the basis for the platform.

The cloud-based, central database Automated Driving Platform (ADP) is intended to simplify the development of automated driving functions by managing accumulating data volumes such as traffic data from vehicles and simulation data. “Microsoft Azure will enable Volkswagen with its cloud, data and AI services to deliver safe and reliable automated driving capabilities to customers faster,” said Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of Cloud + AI at Microsoft. VW.AC will be used to test, deploy and operate the driving functions developed on ADP for the Group’s vehicle fleet.
