Lidar is considered key technology for automated and autonomous driving. Osram Opto Semiconductors has now developed the more powerful SPL DS90A_3 laser for Lidar systems.
With its SPL DS90A_3 laser, Osram Opto Semiconductors has introduced a powerful piece of technology that is intended to increase the range of Lidar systems. The new laser is compact in size and, according to Osram, can operate at high currents up to 40 A. This laser is qualified for use in the automotive sector and has an output power of 125 W.
The edge-emitting, infrared laser beam scans the vicinity of the car across a particular angle segment. The downstream system then generates a high-resolution 3D map of the environment. "Thanks to the higher output, the Lidar system can reliably detect even small and poorly reflecting objects at big distances and take the necessary action in critical driving situations", explains Andreas Bauer, Marketing Manager for Lasers at Osram Opto Semiconductors.
