Abstract

This chapter describes the design and validation of an automated Quick Closing Valve (QCV) system for measuring three-phase flow holdup. The system utilizes an optical assembly to measure fluid column heights directly and pressure transmitters for indirect measurements. The Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) algorithm is employed to fuse these data, reducing uncertainties and enhancing accuracy. The QCV system is designed for vertical upward flow and has been validated through experiments, demonstrating its ability to measure small columns with high precision. The chapter also discusses future tests and applications of the optic sensor in a 30-meter high experimental setup.
