Abstract

The article explores the use of one-dimensional deep learning models for the automatic detection of impact damages in fiber-reinforced composites using air-coupled ultrasound. It highlights the advantages of these models over traditional methods, such as the ability to automatically extract features without manual intervention. The study compares the performance of feed-forward neural networks, one-dimensional convolutional neural networks, and recurrent neural networks like LSTM on various fiber-reinforced composite materials. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of these models in detecting structural damages, with LSTM showing particular promise. The research underscores the potential of deep learning in enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of non-destructive testing and evaluation processes in industries that rely heavily on fiber-reinforced composites.
