Abstract

This chapter focuses on the automatic computation of connectivity in kinematic chains, a crucial aspect of mechanical design. It introduces a new formula for calculating connectivity between links in planar closed kinematic chains, which is realized through C++ programming for enhanced efficiency. The method involves determining the minimum distance and mobility between links, and applying specific conditions to calculate connectivity. The chapter also explains how to build connectivity matrices and provides examples to illustrate the process. The proposed method is suitable for kinematic chains with up to six independent loops and is valuable for generating mechanisms with required connectivity, contributing to the creative design of mechanisms.
