The new, eighth-generation Golf Variant is now longer, which has benefited the interior in particular. VW has also unveiled its Alltrack model. VW Golf 8 Variant

At 4,633 mm, the new VW Golf Variant is 66 mm longer than its predecessor. The wheelbase has also increased by 50 mm to 2,680 mm. The estate resembles the hatchback model up until the B pillar; it also retains the design of the headlights and rear lights. The rear window is now more tilted than before, and the boot can hold between 611 and 1,642 litres of luggage.

The drive comprises engines which have already been unveiled. The three-cylinder petrol engine produces 81 kW (110 HP) of power and the 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine 96 kW (130 HP) and 110 kW (150 HP).  The eTSI mild hybrid versions operate in combination with a belt-driven starter generator and a 48 V lithium-ion battery. The two four-cylinder diesel engines with 85 kW (115 HP) and 110 kW (150 HP) of power use twin dosing technology featuring two SCR catalytic converters for exhaust gas aftertreatment.

Details on the interior have also been released: the digital instrument cluster in the cockpit measures 10.25 inches and the free-standing touchscreen next to it is 8.25 inches or is optionally available as a 10.25 inch. The increase in the wheelbase adds 48 mm to the length of the interior and knee room. In addition to the new Golf Variant, Volkswagen has unveiled its Alltrack model. Its SUV look comes with higher ground clearance, permanent 4Motion all-wheel-drive and a customized interior. VW Golf 8 Alltrack
