BMW Adds 4 Series Gran Coupé to the Electric i4
BMW is adding a third body style to its 4 Series lineup: The mid-size portfolio now consists of a coupé, convertible and the Gran Coupé. The latter adopts many details from the BMW i4.
The second generation of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé looks very similar to the electric BMW i4. No coincidence, as BMW also calls this fully electric BMW Gran Coupé. The now unveiled 4 Series Gran Coupé is based on the same flexible platform and, like its sibling, measures 4783 mm in length and 1852 mm in width, but is slightly lower at 1442 mm.
The wheelbase is also the same and measures 2856 mm, so the rear offers space for three passengers. The trunk capacity is 470 l. The interior design is already familiar from the 4 Series Coupé and offers the BMW Live Cockpit Plus as standard, with a 5.1" color display for the driver and the 8.8" Control Display. The purely digital BMW Live Cockpit Professional is available as an option.
BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé now with M version
The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé uses a partially electrified combustion engine. Three gasoline engines and one diesel engine are available. The four-cylinder gasoline engine in the BMW 420i Gran Coupé produces 135 kW (184 PS), while output in the 430i rises to 180 kw (245 PS). A 140-kw (190-PS) four-cylinder gasoline engine powers the 420d Gran Coupé (also available with all-wheel drive).
For the first time, there is also an M version: The M440i xDrive with in-line six-cylinder produces 275 kW (374 PS). Like the diesel version, it is equipped with mild hybrid technology. A 48-V starter generator provides an additional 8 kW (11 PS) of power during start-up and acceleration. Power is transmitted by the eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard, while the eight-speed Steptronic sports transmission is also available as an option (standard in the BMW M440i xDrive Gran Coupé).
The 4 Series Gran Coupé’s up to 40 driver assistance functions are already familiar from the other models. The 4 Series Gran Coupé is built in Munich (Germany) on the same assembly line as the 3 Series models and the BMW i4.
