BMW M GmbH Presents the 460 kW M5 Competition

Patrick Schäfer

The BMW M5 Competition represents an exclusive combination of motorsport and practicality. This high-performance saloon will be the first independent model from BMW M GmbH.

M gmbH’s top-of-the-line model visually distinguishes itself from the M5 production model by virtue of add-on parts finished in high-gloss black paint, 20-inch forged wheels and a “Competition” logo. The familiar turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine under the bonnet now outputs 460 kW (625 hp) and a maximum torque of 750 newton-metres, allowing the BMW M5 Competition to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Power is transmitted by the eight-speed M-Steptronic transmission. Three driving modes are available for efficient, sporty or particularly dynamic driving.

The engine mounts and chassis have been adapted to the higher performance. New drive mounts with a higher spring constant and a stiffer characteristic should result in even better engine responsiveness and more precise steering compared to the M5. Additionally, the chassis was made 10 percent more rigid and lowered by seven millimetres. A larger wheel camber value at the front axis should absorb lateral forces better. The M Xdrive all-wheel-drive system combined with the active differential is clearly biased to the rear. Pure rear-wheel-drive can also be selected at the push of a button.
