The EU has slightly modified its climate targets, allowing for more flexibility in achieving CO2 reduction goals by 2040 and 2035. The interim target for 2035 has been made vague, with a reduction range of 66.25 to 72.5 % compared to 1990 levels. The next stage of CO2 pricing has been postponed to 2028. Despite these adjustments, the EU's climate efforts remain exemplary compared to the modest targets or withdrawals of other major emitters like China and the US. The article criticizes the lack of focus on carbon capture measures, which could integrate greenhouse gases into a product cycle and promote sector coupling. Additionally, the article highlights technological advancements in the automotive sector, suggesting that future technologies may drive the next big leap in electromobility.
