Abstract

The chapter focuses on the critical issue of protecting transportation infrastructure from impact-induced ground vibrations, which are a byproduct of urban expansion and industrial activities. It delves into the use of barrier systems, including open and infilled barriers, to mitigate these vibrations. The study highlights the performance of single and dual barriers, with a particular emphasis on the economic advantages of dual barriers. Through numerical simulations and parametric studies, the research demonstrates the effectiveness of dual barriers in reducing vibrations with less depth requirement compared to single barriers. The chapter also discusses the optimal placement and design of these barriers to maximize their effectiveness in safeguarding transportation infrastructure.
