Abstract

The article delves into the critical issue of basal heave stability in circular shaft excavations, emphasizing the importance of advanced numerical methods like MPM, FEM, and NLA. It compares these methods' performance in evaluating the stability of a vertical shaft excavation under both dry and saturated conditions. The study highlights the strengths and limitations of each method, particularly focusing on computational efficiency and the ability to handle large deformations.
