Abstract

This chapter explores the use of a numerical corrosion progress model and 3D scanners to predict and analyze corrosion in aging steel bridges. The study focuses on generating simulated corrosion surfaces, comparing them with actual measurements, and evaluating different maintenance scenarios. Key topics include the corrosion progress model considering paint corrosion protection, the generation of artificial corrosion surfaces using 3D scanners, and the load proof test for an aging plate girder bridge. The research concludes that the predicted corrosion and maintenance scenarios can effectively extend the service life of aging steel bridges, providing valuable insights for bridge maintenance and management.
