Abstract

The chapter introduces BehavE, a methodology for understanding and assisting elderly individuals through situation-aware assistive systems. It addresses the challenge of supporting an aging population by automating the generation of situation models that adapt to individual behaviors and preferences. The methodology combines data from sensors, textual sources, and structured knowledge bases to create comprehensive models. These models enable reasoning about behavior, including goals, errors, and their causes, using Computational Causal Behaviour Models. The chapter also discusses planned experiments using datasets from the domain of patients with dementia to evaluate the approach. It highlights the potential of BehavE to provide personalized support and improve the quality of life for elderly individuals.
