Abstract

This chapter delves into the intricate behavior of piles subjected to axial and lateral loads within layered soil environments. The study meticulously examines how varying soil types, pile diameters, and lengths influence the load-bearing capacity and deflection of piles. Through a comparative analysis of traditional methods like IS 2911 and advanced software such as GEO5 Pile, the research provides a nuanced understanding of pile performance. Key findings reveal that increasing pile diameter enhances axial and lateral load capacities, while longer piles show varied axial load capacities depending on soil profile characteristics. The study also highlights the importance of soil stiffness and subgrade response modulus in determining lateral load capacity. Settlement behavior is analyzed, showing that larger diameters and lengths reduce settlement under given loads. The research validates its results against established studies, ensuring accuracy and reliability. This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights for professionals seeking to optimize pile design and performance in complex soil conditions.
