Abstract

This chapter delves into the innovative use of Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) jackets to repair and reinforce damaged shear-deficient reinforced concrete (RC) beams. The study focuses on the structural behavior of pre-damaged lightweight self-consolidating concrete (LWSCC) beams repaired with ECC U-wraps, comparing their performance to the original core beams. Key areas of investigation include load-deflection response, energy absorption capacity, ductility, stress-strain characteristics, cracking patterns, and modes of failure. The results demonstrate a remarkable 290% increase in load-carrying capacity and a 58% increase in deflection, along with enhanced energy absorption and ductility. The study also highlights the change in failure mode from shear to flexure, indicating the effectiveness of ECC jackets in improving the structural integrity of damaged beams. This research provides valuable insights into the practical applications of ECC in repairing and reinforcing concrete structures, offering a promising alternative to traditional repair methods.
