Abstract

This article delves into the profound impact of expressing gratitude on one's sense of self-humanness, a concept that encompasses both human nature and human uniqueness. Through a series of studies, it is revealed that gratitude expression can significantly enhance an individual's perception of their own humanness, primarily by fostering a stronger sense of social connection. The research highlights the malleable nature of self-humanness and introduces a new metaphor-based measure to assess this perception. The findings suggest that gratitude expression can be a universal method to boost self-humanness across different cultures, offering practical implications for interventions and programs aimed at enhancing well-being and social connections. The article also discusses the theoretical contributions and future directions for research in this area, making it a comprehensive exploration of the interplay between gratitude, social connection, and self-perception.
