Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical role of women in African peace and security architecture, emphasizing their disproportionate impact during conflicts and the need for their inclusion in peacebuilding processes. It reviews the implementation of UNSCR 1325, which aims to increase women’s participation and protection in conflict resolution. The chapter also examines the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and the challenges faced in integrating women into formal peacebuilding processes. Despite progress, the chapter underscores the persistent gender divide and the necessity for a shift in attitudes and behaviors to fully incorporate women in peace and security efforts. This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights into the complexities of achieving sustainable peace in Africa through inclusive gender policies.
