Abstract

The chapter delves into the transformative potential of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in road infrastructure, emphasizing its role throughout an asset's lifecycle. It underscores the importance of maintaining intelligent information integrity across various project stages, from initial planning to operation and maintenance. The research addresses a gap in the literature by proposing a systematic approach for digitalizing pre-existing road infrastructure without readily available design documentation. Key topics include the use of survey drones for data acquisition, the creation of digital surface models, and the establishment of horizontal-vertical alignments. The chapter also explores the development of 3D corridors, asset management strategies, and the benefits of BIM in facilitating interdependencies among model elements. It concludes by advocating for an information management system to support the monitoring, management, and analysis of construction and maintenance processes, as well as lifecycle assessment.
